About Us
Li Kwong Agencies Co. was founded by Mr. Koh Eng Chuay back in 1974. It started off as a small business at the Koh family’s residential home. At that time, Li Kwong specialized in hand-making traditional peanut candies. The main ingredient for the traditional delicacies is peanut that was roasted and grinded into crusty bits. The innovative Mr. Koh developed his own roasting and grinding machine by using the wheels and chains of a bicycle. Good product quality and service are the selling points for the blooming business from home.. With more and more orders coming in, the business gradually expanded into a factory.
Taking over from his father in 1987, Mr. Koh Kiaw Kiam made revolutionary changes to the business. After analyzing the market, he noticed that the demands for traditional candies were decreasing. Hence, he directed the business towards specializing in manufacturing roasted peanut grits, peanut powder and roasted sesame. Having inherited his father’s innovative traits, Mr. Koh revised and upgraded the machines, such that they are now able to produce about 300 kilograms of peanuts in 1 hour, compared to 50 kilograms in 40 minutes in the past.
Recognizing the demand for more varieties, as well as the likings of Singaporeans, Li Kwong started to introduce more choices like sesame paste, peanut paste, instant satay spice, high-grade five spices powder and coriander spices.
Keeping to his father’s belief of providing quality product and services, Mr. Koh cherishes every customer who walks into Li Kwong. He is serious, sincere and committed towards his work. He supervises tasks personally, from minor matters to important managerial decisions and makes sure that the products are of good quality, without sparing on the ingredients or using cheaper alternatives. He also ensures that his employees produce quality products and provide good services, by painstakingly training his production team until they meet his expectations. Mr. Koh believes in two-way communication, and remains unreserved and open-minded in receiving feedbacks from employees and customers.
Well-known for its fragrant roasted peanut, Li Kwong has established itself as a leading peanut manufacturer in Singapore. To date, Li Kwong does business as a wholesaler, supplying products to food manufacturers, supermarkets, restaurants, hawker centres, and the list goes on. Mr. Koh credits Li Kwong’s success to the supportive customers. He believes that word-of-mouth is their best advertising tool. Reliable services from Li Kwong gained trusts from customers, and set off the branding for Li Kwong.
